Renegade Handmade

It's been a little over a week since the Renegade Holiday Craft Fair in Chicago, and I'm finally writing this post about the fair!  A bit delayed, I know...

All in all, there was a great turnout at the RHCF!  Tons of people made it out to buy handmade gifts, and believe me it was hard to choose amongst all of the fantastic art and crafts!

During the fair, I got this adorable print from Nicole, titled My Dearest Friend.

After the weekend was over, I stayed in Chicago for a couple of days, relaxing and visiting with friends. Thanks so much to our friends Amber, Jenny and Joe for putting us up during our visit!

2010 Lucky Cat Calendar
Before I left Chicago, I also stopped by the Renegade Handmade Store and dropped off many different Elevated Press items for sale in the shop including the 2010 Lucky Cat Calendar, holiday cards, and cards for many other occasions.

If you missed us at the Renegade Fair, please stop by the store at 1924 W. Division St. to check out Elevated Press's paper goods in person! Or, visit my Etsy site to purchase Elevated Press goods online.

And, finally, the winner of a free Elevated Press card set is Catherine Stern! Our winner was randomly selected using random.org. Thanks everyone for signing up for our mailing list at the Renegade Holiday Fair!

Alisa Bobzien for Elevated Press

Elevated Press will be participating in the Renegade Holiday Craft Fair in Chicago this weekend!

We've been in major printing mode for the past few weeks trying to get all of our new items ready for the show. And now that everything is printed, we can finally start showing the new work! Several of our new items are designed by artist Alisa Bobzien for Elevated Press. We're so happy to be working with such a fantastic talent and we think that her designs are going to be enjoyed by all. Thanks so much Alisa!

Check out Alisa's post about her visit to the Elevated Press studio.

Elevated Press at the Renegade Craft Holiday Fair in Chicago

Elevated Press is very happy to announce that we will be participating as a vendor in the Renegade Holiday Craft Fair in Chicago on December 5th and 6th!

This is our first Renegade Craft Fair, and we are super excited to show our work next to so many other talented artists and craftspeople. For those of you not familiar with the Renegade Fair, I think they say it best: "The Renegade Craft Fair is a unique, DIY event showcasing over hundreds of the most talented Artists + Crafters around. The fair takes place in cities across the US, including Brooklyn, Chicago, Los Angeles & San Francisco. At RCF you'll find all sorts of cool handmade stuff - including plush items, jewelry, poster + prints, craft kits, clothing, stationery + more."

Some new products that we're working on for the show include: an adorable new love-related card, gift tags, a limited edition art print, 2 more holiday cards, and a 2010 calendar!

The Fair is taking place at the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse, in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood.
The address is: 1419 W. Blackhawk St., Chicago, IL 60642

Our Chandler & Price Platen Press

In September, my husband Pete and I drove to Cleveland, OH, headquarters of Chandler and Price Co., to pick-up our very own C&P platen press from a retiring printer. Weighing in at around 2,200 lbs, it was definitely a tough piece of equipment to move. Luckily there was a forklift rental place about a mile down the road from the former print shop.

Since there were no drivers available to drop it off at the shop, Pete very bravely decided to drive the forklift on the major 5 lane road connecting the two locations. I drove behind him in the huge pick-up truck we borrowed from Pete's Dad, with hazards blinking. Topping out at somewhere around 10 miles per hour, we slowly made our way, all the while the forklift bouncing around like crazy after hitting every little pothole and manhole cover. Oh, and I forgot to mention that it was raining the entire time!

Once we got there, we loaded the press in the truck without a hitch. Phew, big relief!
The journey continued with returning the forklift to the rental place, our truck stalling out due to a weak battery connection, and a stressful 3 hour drive back to the studio, BUT we made it just fine! I'm just sorry that I didn't get any photos of our adventure...

Moving the extremely heavy and bulky equipment needed for letterpress printing has proven to be much more difficult than I ever expected. But it's so worthwhile because this stuff is built to last. I just hope that we won't be moving studios again anytime soon!

Here's a photo of the press safe and sound in the studio. Here's a photo of the press safe and sound in the studio.
